I have just been given a new brief which is a cross pathway project & is entitled 'Enchanted'. As it is a cross pathway it involves working as a group to create a toy shop window display. The toy shop we are designing for is 'Toys & Tales' which is a really lovely & traditional shop selling almost every children's toy imaginable! We will be designing 3 window displays one of which will be an interactive display & if our group is chosen we will preform a workshop for the interactive window on a February Saturday.
As the theme is enchanted we have begun our primary research by drawing anything we can think of that has a really magical feel e.g. fairies, pixies, stars, toadstools etc. We are thinking of including some silhouette's in the window of enchanted characters that we have each made up. At the moment we are brainstorming ideas but efficiently getting our thoughts together. We are concentrating on having dangling things in the windows to ensure that the display will look good from both outside & inside the shop. We are thinking of having a washing line with toys & characters attached in one window & dangling boxes in another. And for the final interactive window a giant jigsaw type display that the children can come in a play with & as this is an interactive window this will hopefully bring the children into the shop & tempt them to buy products.
Our secondary research involves us looking at artists who use enchanted characters in their work & draw & create in a very magical way. We have begun this by looking at artists like Tim Burton & Su Blackwell. We have also looked at the most creative window displays from companies such as Harvey Nichols, Selfridges, The Disney Store & classic vintage shops.

I am already really enjoying this brief as i've always wanted to work on something that includes enchanted & magical creatures, also I really enjoy displaying & putting things together. It will be interesting to see how we work as a group & how much we can learn from each other, whilst building our team working skills.
