When looking for historic artists I found the work of Walter Crane very inspiring. He was a English Victorian artist and did many illustrations for books. His use of colour in his work is really beautiful and many of his illustrations look very delicate and historical. The image the swan's (above) was used as a wallpaper dado panel and many of his deisgns are a big influence on interior surface design today, as I found Bradbury & Bradbury wallpaper design get a lot of their inspiration from his work.
