1) We were given a talk by the most talented Jennifer Collier who creates beautifully intricate objects such as house hold objects, clothing and shoes, out of paper. She uses recycled materials to create her work and suggested that when we buy our materials we have a good rummage in charity shops! I found this to be a brilliant piece of advise as not only does it save you money on art materials but it also helps your work to be extremely individual, as if you have purchased something from a charity shop, like an old shirt to reuse to make a garment out of, then its most likely to be a one off.
2) Jennifer also gave us advise was to experiment experiment experiment! She suggested that even if we feel like something is going nowhere or we are struggling to make sense of what we doing, we should keep going until we get something out of it and learn from it. She also said that experimenting like this can lead to happy accidents where something that wasn't meant to happen ended up developing.
3) We had a really brilliant talk from the wallpaper company 'Annaglypta' which I found to be a great help in understanding how to apply surface design to the 'real world'. They commented on repeat pattern and let us view their best sellers which was good to know. They told us that is was important to communicate the inspiration in your final designs as it must be clear where you got your ideas from. Furthermore they showed us some of their mood boards and discussed that you can get inspiration from anywhere no matter what part of the design world your from. The gave us the advise of travelling to see the world as there is so much to see which can inspire you massively!
