As part of my course I have been asked to get in contact with 3 people from the industry and ask for any general advise or feedback on my own work. the first contact who I have got a reply from is fashion photographer Rebecca Tessler. I went to college with Rebecca many years ago but we lost contact but I have since heard many good things about her work and thought it would be a good opportunity to get some advise on how to go froward once leaving a course.
I got in contact with her via Facebook and then asked for her email to contact her more professionally. The email I sent her was...
Hi Rebecca,
As part of my second year of my course in Surface Design I have been asked to get in contact with people from the art and design industry and would be grateful if you could give me some advise on what you have done since you graduated from Salford Uni.
Since leaving how have you found getting work in photography and where have you looked to seek any available jobs? Also I noticed that you have kept up with your blog since you left, how have you found the motivation to do this?
I would really benefit from any advise you could give me on how to progress further when I leave my course next year.
Thank you for taking the time to read this email.
Yours sincerely Lyndsay Caine.

After completing my BTEC in Art and Design at Trafford College in 2008 I attended Salford University studying Fashion Stying and Image Making. The corse was perfect for me as it gave me a huge opportunity to exress myself through fashion and photography; my two main passions. This is where my blog started and the ongoing inspiration to carry it on literally comes from images and ideas all around me every day.
During the second year of the corse I had to seek my own placement in the industry, I did this with a fashion photographer in London and I moved there in order to fulfill the experience. This gave me a huge insight into how the fashion industry works, how to act around clients and overall what is expected of me in my chosen career path.
Since I graduated in July 2011, I have been working in retail and have recently been promoted to in-store Visual Merchandiser. Even though it's still vaguely in the same group as my dream career, it doesn't come close to satisfying me at all. I wish to do this until I save enough money to move down to London and hopefully I can start assisting more photographers, get my name known around more of the industry and maybe one day I'll make a living doing what I love most; taking pictures.
Hope this has helped you, and if you want to know anything else don't hesitate to ask.
Many thanks,
Rebecca Tessler.
I have found this a great help as I feel she has given me some brilliant advise on how to keep going and the reality that you don't always get to where you want to go straight away as it takes time and effort which you must keep going with in order to get to where you finally want to be. I have found her advise very inspirational as she hasn't given up any hope and is still managing to proceed with her work and is still finding motivation from images all around her.
