I have always been attracted to a design of an album cover for the band Bombay Bicycle Club album 'A Different Kind of Fix'. I was so drawn to it that I decided to have a look at who created it and after doing a little bit of research I found it was drawn by the illustrator Katie Scott. I had a look on her website and thought her illustrations were absolutely stunning. She creates very intricate drawings of scientific forms such as the body, plants and underwater animals. She has a great sense of shape in her work and the amount of detail used is astounding and really makes her work that bit more interesting, also it makes her illustrations stand out from other artists. Something else that makes her work interesting to me is how she studies what she is drawing so much that the illustrations are very specific, furthermore she really makes what she is drawing become her own as she creates them to look almost cartoon like but in a mature way that adults can enjoy.

Another thing about her work that really appeals to me is the colours that she uses as she uses a lot of colour but mutes the tones so they become pastel like but also looking quite vintage. I am thinking about maybe including some of these colour palettes in my current work as the patterns I am creating are quite busy so I thought that adding a subtle colour palette would be a good idea so that the designs are not to overwhelming. It is also interesting to see how her work is very illustrative but it has not been used for something typical like a book or magazine illustration but instead for something a little commercially different with it being used for an album cover. I think this shows just how broad the art world can be and how many opportunities there are for designing for different types of art no matter what your studied area of art is.
