Using Adobe Photoshop, 'Wild West' Brief.

For the second part of my first brief we were asked to create six designs in two colour ways that were suitable for fashion prints in the style of 'the wild west'. We were asked to create them as digital designs using Adobe Photoshop. I again found this a greta challenge having never used Adobe Photoshop before, but I began trying out simple things like editing backgrounds and cutting objets out to paste them onto backgrounds using the Lasso tool.

I decided to mix Illustrator and Photoshop together for this part of the brief as I wasn't so confident at using Photoshop to draw on and create patterns. I therefore created my patterns on Illustrator and added in backgrounds and edited the designs on Photoshop. In the future when I have had more practise and more time I would like to try creating patterns on Photoshop.

I visited museums for my primary research so I had lots of photographs to draw from to create my designs with. I found I was particularly interested in cacti, cowboys & indians and teepee's, so i based my final designs on these objects that I drew in my sketchbook.

Below is an example of some of my sketchbook drawings of some cactus.

I found all of my colours palettes from a two books that I found in the college library called 'Pattern and Palette Sourcebook: A Complete Guide to Using Colour in Design'  and 'Pattern and Palette Sourcebook 2: A Complete Guide to Using Colour in Design' by Anvil Graphic Design. I found these books a great deal of help because it became apparent to me that I was able to type in the colour swatches in the books into the computer and I could get the exact colour that was in the books.

Design Two

Design Three

Design Four

Design Five

Design Six

Here you can see how I mixed Illustrator and Photoshop as I drew out the pattern and coloured it on Illustrator first and then added a filter over the top of it and used the blur tool on Photoshop to make the design a bit more exciting and unusual.
